Our residents and councillors have been clear that when they opposed the original station plans it was greatly in part to the lack of proper Step-Free Access for the Piccadilly Line.
TFL went above our heads and appealed our decision. They have been granted planning permission but this only includes step-free access for the Circle and District Line platforms. Leaving the job only half-done.
RBKC Lead Member for Planning & Public Realm, Cllr Cem Kemahli, recently met with TfL to encourage them to think again, and include step-free access to the Piccadilly Line as part of the South Kensington around station development. The historic lift shafts are still in place, and this would be building on the precedent of the recent step-free access upgrade to Knightsbridge Station.
We are keen to see the job at South Kensington fully completed, and see TfL complete these works during the South Kensington Station redevelopment,
We’ve relied on Victorian infrastructure for too long – it is time to bring South Kensington into the 21st Century.
