A recent funding injection of £250 million from Ministers and TfL brings the total central government support for London's transport system to £6.6 billion since the pandemic began. This funding will aid TfL's ongoing initiatives, including the procurement of new Piccadilly line trains, which could potentially generate thousands of jobs nationwide. In addition, TfL's revenue from retained business rates has reached approximately £2 billion annually, contributing to its financial stability.

Discussions between TfL commissioner Andy Lord and Felicity Buchan highlighted concerns regarding tube station closures and the need for greater adoption of electric buses and step-free access at South Kensington Tube Station and Ladbrooke Grove Tube Station. While progress has been made in expanding electric vehicle infrastructure in the borough, there remains a pressing need to accelerate the transition to electric buses.

Currently only a third of bus routes in Kensington are electric, posing health risks due to diesel emissions. Leaders are calling for expedited efforts to achieve a fully electric bus fleet by 2030, aiming to mitigate air pollution.

Tony Devenish AM and Felicity Buchan MP are calling for accelerating an all-electric bus fleet in Kensington to 2030.
